About

At The Pilates Mat Room, our mission is simple:
to preserve and teach Classical Pilates as it was originally intended, intelligently, precisely, and with respect for the system as a whole. It is a complete method designed to build strength, flexibility, coordination, and resilience over time.

Our goal is to help clients move better in their bodies, feel stronger in daily life, and develop a long-term relationship with Pilates!

Our Approach

What Is Classical Pilates?

Classical Pilates is the original method developed by Joseph Pilates, taught as a structured, intentional system. Rather than random exercises or constant variation, Classical Pilates follows:

  • A set order

  • Clear transitions

  • Specific exercises performed the same way, every time

This approach allows the body to learn, adapt, and progress naturally.

Our Equipment

What is Classical Pilates equipment?

In our small group classes and private sessions, you’ll work on traditional Pilates equipment designed exactly as Joseph Pilates intended. We use classical mats, chairs, and apparatus that support the full system,.

These original designs matter because even small changes in equipment change how the work feels in your body. We choose equipment from Contrology and Legacy for this reason, and all apparatus will be fully in place by early 2026.

Our Commitment to the Mat

Our studio actually began as a simple idea, creating a space where private clients could really commit to mat work. What it’s grown into is a community of people who genuinely love the mat and use it regularly.

We believe strongly in the order of the work and what it can do for the body over time. The mat is powerful because it’s accessible, you can take it on the road, do it at home, travel with it, and keep your practice consistent without relying on big pieces of equipment. That’s why it’s the foundation of what we do here.

That said, the mat isn’t the only part of the system. It’s the baseline. We use private sessions and the full range of Classical equipment to support and improve the mat work. Everything works together.

How Our Studio Works

All of our clients do mat work regularly.

Most people come to 2-3 mat classes a week.

Private sessions are where we fine-tune things. Some clients come weekly, some every couple of weeks, some monthly.

In those one-on-one sessions, we use the full Classical system to support and improve the mat work. The equipment isn’t separate from the mat,  it’s there to help you do the mat better.

So the structure is pretty simple. The mat builds the foundation, and private sessions deepen the work. Together, they create a practice that’s effective, sustainable, and actually useful in real life.
