What is Pilates?Pilates is a specific form of therapeutic exercise created in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates. His method consists of various exercises in a specific order and on a variety of different apparatus, most of which use springs to create tension and resistance for you to push and pull against. Pilates was originally called Contrology, and it’s aim is to gain complete control over your body and all of its movements. Pilates enhances your strength, flexibility, balance and body awareness. Pilates can help you develop better posture, correct old injuries and avoid new injuries, improve your sport performance, tone your muscles and will make you feel energetic, youthful, toned and tall.
-
What is Classical Pilates?Classical Pilates, (as opposed to contemporary Pilates), adheres to the exercises and the method just as Joseph Pilates created it and taught it, (without making up new variations/adaptations/modifications just to entertain you). The method is rigorous, the equipment is traditional, and it works. Contrology in its truest form helps you achieve complete coordination of mind, body and spirit.
-
Where should I start if I am a beginner to Pilates? You have multiple options if you are new to Pilates or new to our studio. You can start with our foundations class or book a 1:1 Private session. We strongly suggest that your first group class be one of the ‘foundations’ classes, even if you have previous pilates experience. We would like to carefully and safely introduce you to our studio and our style of teaching Pilates. After your first visit or when you have completed your consultation on the equipment, you can ask your teacher where the best place for you to continue is.

I HAVE AN INJURY, WHAT CLASS SHOULD I JOIN?Group Classes and Injury Considerations We believe in the power of collective movement to inspire and elevate, yet we understand that each individual's journey is unique. Participating in a group class with an injury requires careful consideration. While our group classes are designed to foster a sense of togetherness, they might not always provide the tailored attention necessary to accommodate injuries effectively. For this reason, we recommend that you prioritize your recovery and well-being by refraining from joining group classes until your injury has been adequately addressed and healed. Private 1:1 Sessions with Melanie or sSharon: Due to the nature of our group classes, we suggest that you begin with private one-on-one sessions. This personalized guidance will help you establish appropriate modifications and techniques tailored to your injury. Confidence in Modifications: If you're confident in your ability to adapt exercises to accommodate your injury, you're welcome to join our group classes. However, please keep in mind that we provide limited hands-on corrections during these sessions. Your safety is our top priority. By starting with private sessions and gradually transitioning to group classes, you'll be better equipped to engage in our classes confidently and safely. Remember, we're here to support your journey toward a healthier and stronger you. Clients should consider booking a private session first if they are dealing with any of the following injuries or conditions: Recent Injuries: Injuries sustained within the past few weeks, such as sprains, strains, or minor fractures. Chronic Pain: Persistent discomfort or pain that has been present for an extended period. Back Issues: Conditions like herniated discs, sciatica, or chronic back pain. Joint Problems: Joint-related issues like arthritis, bursitis, or tendonitis. Post-Surgery: Individuals recovering from recent surgical procedures or medical interventions. Rehabilitation: People undergoing physical therapy or rehabilitation for a specific injury. Cardiovascular Conditions: Heart-related conditions that require specialized exercise modifications. Orthopedic Concerns: Bone-related conditions or limitations, such as fractures or osteoporosis. Neurological Conditions: Nervous system disorders that affect movement and coordination. Pregnancy: Expecting mothers who need tailored exercises to accommodate their changing bodies. Balance and Stability Issues: Individuals with balance disorders or concerns about stability. Pre-existing Conditions: Any medical condition that might require special attention during exercise.

Why should I practice at home?We believe in the power of consistency and quality over quantity. Focused Improvement: Repeating a class level allows you to focus on specific movements and exercises, enabling you to align your form and technique over time. This targeted approach can lead to noticeable improvements in your strength, flexibility, and overall performance. Mind-Body Connection: Our classes are designed to help you connect with yourself – your muscles, mind, and breath. Repetition enhances this connection, allowing you to deepen your awareness and understanding of your body's movements. This mindfulness contributes to a more fulfilling and effective workout experience. Efficient Workouts: You don't need a different workout every day. Our classes are crafted to deliver maximum benefits in just 30-45 minutes. By revisiting the same class, you optimize your time and effort, making the most out of each session. Personalized Progress: Every individual is unique, and progress varies. Repeating a class provides the opportunity for personalized progress tracking. You can set achievable goals, measure your advancements, and celebrate your successes along the way.
