Learn the work. Grow into teaching.

Study Joseph Pilates' method, Contrology, inside a small working studio in Penticton. You practise, you watch, you ask a lot of questions, and bit by bit it all starts to connect.

There is something special about learning in a small studio. You become part of its everyday life. You practise alongside others, watch teachers work, ask questions, and gradually begin to see how everything connects.

That’s how I want to help teachers grow here at PMR.

Our apprenticeship is for people who want to study Joseph Pilates’ method, Contrology, and develop the skills to share it thoughtfully with others. You might be beginning your teaching journey or coming from a contemporary Pilates background and wanting to explore the classical system.

You don’t need to arrive knowing everything.

You do need curiosity, commitment, and a willingness to be a student.

Learning takes practice

Throughout your apprenticeship, you’ll study the work across the mat and studio equipment, including the Reformer, Cadillac, Wunda Chair, and barrels.

Personal practice, observation, guided study, and practice teaching all have a place. You’ll experience the exercises in your own body, watch how they’re taught to different people, and begin putting that understanding into practice with support and feedback.

We’ll explore how the exercises connect, how the equipment supports the work, and how to make thoughtful choices for the person in front of you.

There will be questions. There will be repetition. And there will be those lovely moments when something you’ve practised many times suddenly makes a little more sense.

Small by design

PMR is a small studio, and our approach to teacher education reflects that. I want to know the people I’m mentoring, see their progress, and give them room to develop.

My own education continues to shape how I practise and teach. I value being a student, and I want to build a learning environment where asking questions feels comfortable and feedback is part of growing.

The goal is to help you become a capable, observant teacher who understands the work and keeps learning.
